Diebold makes shitty machines, they always have, and they won't open the code. But they like open standards for ATMs? You can find what voting machines your state used here. In KY they use Hart InterCivic machines, but they Diebold and another voting machine company still have vulnerabilities. I was going to go on a diatribe about what I thought this means, but I think you guys should pull your own conclusions about voting, maybe I will post my opinion tomorrow.

Politics and hackers

Some hackers tend to be very liberal and some very conservative. People like Eric Raymond tend to be conservative and lean towards an Ayn Randian objectivist view(See Atlas Shrugged). As were some hackers such as Randall Munroe who has endorsed Obama as a presidential candidate in the 2008 American campaign. The Jargon File has an entry on hackers and politics. All though you may want to keep in mind that it is maintained by Eric S. Raymond.

Who is Ron Paul?

I saw a sign downtown today that says "Who is Ron Paul?", I almost shat my pants. I love you.

So I love xkcd.com I love Randall Munroe, but you know what I don't like. I don't like it when a web celeb, makes a political endorsement and then turns commenting off on that thread. While I still respect Munroe I would like to say that I do think it is a bad call for him to block commenting after his endorsement of Obama.

Politcs and hacking

Most hackers have a political stance on the subjects near and dear to their heart. Copyright, DRM, Net Neutrality, and wire fraud. A lot of hackers have conspiracy theories, but not as many hackers actually choose a political champion or candidate. That being said, Ron Paul may indeed be a hacker.
